Is It Necessary to Do Ghusl After Wet Dreams? ~ Hi all readers! In several previous articles I have explained a lot about wet dreams and ghusl. Now, in this article, specifically, I will explain the reasons why you need to do ghusl after a wet dream. As Muslims, we must understand that. So, you must read this article to the end.

Specifically, there are three important points about “is it necessary to do ghusl after wet dreams?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:

The Urgency of Ghusl in Islam

The first important thing about “is it necessary to do ghusl after wet dreams?” what I will explain here is the urgency of ghusl in Islam. I want you to understand that before you read any further explanation in this article, and so that you can understand the focus of our discussion now.

By the way, do you know what big hadas is? In Islamic legal literacy, big hadas is one of the conditions that prevent Muslims from performing some rituals in Islam, such as praying (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, Qabliyah, Ba'diyah, and so on), reading the Quran, Tawaf, and so forth. They must perform these rituals in a holy state. Ghusl is the ultimate way to get rid of it.

We can find an explanation that ghusl is the main way of eliminating big hadas in the following hadith:

عَنْ أَبِيْ سَعِيْدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الْمَاءُ بِالْمَاءِ . رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ

From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri radliyallaahu anhu, he said, "Allah's Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Water from water." The hadith is narrated by Muslim.

If they don't have water to do ghusl, then they have to do tayammum.

That is a general explanation of the urgency of ghusl in Islam.

Specifically, we can find an explanation of the urgency of ghusl as follows:

  • Ghusl is the only way to get rid of big hadas.
  • The big hadas is one of the things that prevents Muslims from performing some of their obligations in Islam.
  • Muslims must perform their obligations in Islam.

Those are three reasons why ghusl is so important in Islam.

Types of Wet Dreams in Islam

The second important thing about “is it necessary to do ghusl after wet dreams?” what I will explain here are the types of wet dreams in Islam. I want you to understand that because not all wet dreams require Muslims to do ghusl.

Actually, in several previous articles I have explained the types of wet dreams in Islam. In this article I will explain a little about it. So, if you want to read more explanations about it, you can read them in these articles

Two Types of Wet Dreams in Islam

The two types of wet dreams in Islam that I mean are as follows:

Wet Dreams Require Muslims to Do Ghusl

What is meant by a wet dream that requires Muslims to do ghusl is if their sperm comes out when they have a wet dream. So, the ghusl standard after a wet dream is if the sperm comes out.

Wet Dreams That Not Require Muslims to Do Ghusl

What is meant by a wet dream that does not require Muslims to do ghusl is if their sperm does not come out during a wet dream. Muslims have to make sure of that after they have a wet dream.

Specifically, we can find an explanation that if the sperm of Muslims come out when they have a wet dream, then they must perform ghusl, and if their sperm does not come out when they have a wet dream, then they do not have to perform ghusl in the hadith below:

From Umm Salamah, Ummul Mukminin, radliyallahu anha, that she said, "Umm Sulaym, the wife of Abu Talha, has come to the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. She then said, "O Messenger of Allah, verily Allah is not ashamed of the truth: should a woman take a bath if she has had wet dreams?" The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Yes if he has seen the water (her sperm comes out).

That is a brief explanation of the types of wet dreams in Islam that Muslims must understand.

Is It Necessary to Do Ghusl After a Wet Dreams?

Now I will explain the specific answer about “is it necessary to do ghusl after wet dreams?”. I think if you understand all the explanations above, then you can already guess the answer.

Specifically, I would say, that Muslims must perform ghusl after a wet dream if their sperm comes out. But if their sperm doesn't come out, then they don't have to do ghusl. That's the answer. You have to remember that.

All readers! That's a brief explanation of "is it necessary to do ghusl after wet dreams?". Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!

I think that's enough for this article. May be useful. Amen.
