Hi All Readers! Are you looking for an explanation about “can we cut our nails during menstruation in Islam?”? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!
Specifically, there are three important points about “can we cut our nails during menstruation in Islam?” which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:
What Is Menstruation in Islam?
First important thing about “can we cut our nails during menstruation in Islam?” what I will explain now is "what is menstruation in Islam?". I want you to understand that first before you read more explanations in this article because that is one of the basic things in this discussion that must be well understood.
If we read some Islamic legal literature on menstruation, then we will find an explanation that menstruation is one type of blood that comes out of the vagina of a healthy woman without any cause. It is a normal condition experienced by women.
Sometimes, the color of menstrual blood is dark red, brown or black. In a hadith it is explained that the color is black. We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
From Aisha radliyallahu anhaa, that Fathima bint Abu Habisy was experiencing istihadhah. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alaihi wa sallam then said to him, "Indeed the menstrual blood is black. If the blood is like that, then don't pray! If the blood is different, then perform ablution and pray. "The hadith is narrated by Abu Daud.
There are verses in the Quran and several hadiths that describe menstruation. That is what Islamic jurists use to answer questions about menstruation. I will explain that in the discussion below.
Quran About Menstruation
As for the Quran about menstruation that I mean is as follows:
They ask you about menstruation. Say, "Menstruation is something dirty." That is why you should stay away from women when they are menstruating. And do not approach them until they are pure. If they are pure, then come to them where Allah has commanded you. Verily, Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves." (Al-Baqarah: 222).
Hadith About Menstruation
As for the hadith about menstruation that I mean as follows:
Allah's Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "If menstruation has come, then do not pray. If it (menstruation) has gone, then clean the menstrual blood and pray."
From Aisah radliyallaahu Taala anha, she said, “When we arrived at Sarif, I was on my period. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam then said, "Do something that is usually done by people who perform Hajj, but you do not perform tawaf in the Baitul Haram until you are pure." This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
From Anas radliyallahu anhu, that if the wife of a Jew is menstruating, then she will not eat with her. The Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Do everything except sex." This hadith was narrated by Muslim.
From Aisha radliyallahu anhaa, she said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam has said, "Indeed I do not allow women who are menstruating and people who are junub to stay in the mosque." This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud.
From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri radliyallahu anhu from the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, he said, "Isn't if she is menstruating then she does not pray and does not fast."
From Ibn Umar, that he had divorced his wife when she was menstruating during the time of the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Umar bin Khattab then asked about it to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Allah's Messenger sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam then said to him, "Order him to return to his wife…"
Allah's Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Menstruating women and Junub people are not allowed to read the Quran at all."
That's a brief explanation of "what is menstruation in Islam?", Quran about menstruation and some hadiths about menstruation. As Muslims, we must understand that.
Prohibitions During Menstruation in Islam
The second important point about “can we cut our nails during menstruation in Islam?” what I will explain now is prohibitions during menstruation in Islam. I want you to understand that so you understand what you shouldn't do during your period.
If we understand some of the explanations above and some Islamic literacy about menstruation, then, we can conclude that the prohibitions during menstruation in Islam are as follows:
- Wudu and Janaba bath.
- Prayer (Salat).
- Touch the Quran.
- Tawaf.
- Have sex.
- I'tikaf.
- Fasting (shaum).
- Divorced.
Those are the eight prohibitions during menstruation in Islam. In several previous articles, I have explained it all. So, I will not explain that again here.
That is a brief explanation of prohibitions during menstruation in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand that.
Can We Cut Nails During Menstruation in Islam?
The third important point about “can we cut our nails during menstruation in Islam?” what I'm going to explain now is a specific answer. I want you to read this explanation very carefully so that you understand whether it is permissible or not in Islam.
To be honest, I don't find any evidence that prohibits Muslim women from cutting their nails during menstruation. In fact, in Islamic legal literacy it is explained that Muslim women can cut their nails during menstruation. There are several hadiths that serve as the basis for his argument. Some of the hadiths I mean are as follows:
Allah's Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said (to Aisha who was menstruating), "Leave your Umrah, untie your hair, and comb it."
In the hadith it is explained that Aisha who was menstruating was told by the Prophet Muhammad to comb her hair. In general, there will be hair that falls out if it is combed. That's the analogy of cutting nails during menstruation.
Allah's Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Indeed, the believer (mukmin) is not unclean." In Sahih al-Hakim, "Either live or die".
In the hadith it is explained that the believers (Muslims) who live and those who die are holy. In other words, nails cut during menstruation are sacred. In general, it is the opinion of some Muslims that a Muslim woman who is menstruating should not cut her nails because she is in an impure condition. What is worried is that the nails are missing and have not been purified by Janabah bath.
That's a brief explanation of "can we cut our nails during menstruation in Islam?" and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask.
I think that's enough for this article. Hope it is useful. Amen.
See you again in the next article!
