Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation about breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!

Specifically, there are three important things about breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam which I will explain in this article. The three important things I mean are as follows:

Breastfeeding to Man in Islam

The first important point about breastfeeding a husband during pregnancy in Islam which I will explain now is breastfeeding to man in Islam. I want you to understand the crux of the matter about that.

If we read the literacy of Islamic law about breastfeeding to men, then we will find an explanation that the source of the debate about breastfeeding to men in Islam is the hadith below:

From Aisha radliyallahu anha, that Salim, the slave who had been freed by Abu Hudzaifah, lived in the house with Abu Hudzaifah and his family. Suhail's daughter then came to the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, then she said, "Verily, Salim has reached the age of adulthood like adult men. He is able to think as they think. Really, he always comes to us. I irrigated that which was also in Abu Hudzaifah's mind. " Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam then said to her, "Breastfeed him so that you become his Mahram and what was in Abu Hudzaifah's mind would be lost." She then went and said, "Really I have breastfed him and what was in Abu Hudzaifah's mind was gone."

The hadith must be understood from two aspects:

  • We must understand the authenticity aspect of the hadith as a hadith that did come from the Prophet Muhammad.

If we read Islamic literacy about the hadith, then we will find an explanation that the hadith is a hadith sahih or a valid hadith. Many hadith experts have narrated the hadith, such as Muslim, Abu Daud, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, and Ahmad. The lineage of the hadith (sanad) reached Aisha.

  • The relevance of the hadith as the basis of Islamic law regarding breastfeeding to man.

This hadith causes controversy among scholars. Salim, as explained in the hadith is a man with a beard (adult). So, logically, he would no longer be possible and inappropriate to be breastfed by an adult woman who had no kinship with him.

But Prophet Muhammad salallahu alaihi wa sallam ordered Sahlah to breastfeed Salim (her husband's former adopted son, Abu Hudzaifah). That is why Ibn Abd al-Bar and al-Darimi did not comment on the hadith.

We can find another attitude in Dr. Izzat 'Athiyah who was once a hadith lecturer, at the Usuluddin faculty, al-Azhar university, Cairo, Egypt. He argued that a female employee who worked alone with a man in a closed room and the door could not be opened except through one of the two, could breastfeed her male friend. The goal is that both of them are allowed to be alone in the room and the woman is allowed to take off her hijab and reveal her hair in front of the man she is breastfeeding because the man has become her mahram.

Now, how do we understand this hadith properly?

An-Nawawi, one of the experts in Islamic law, explained the differences of opinion among Islamic law experts regarding the hadith. Aisha and Dawad al-Zhahiri explained that breastfeeding to man can lead to a mahram status as breastfeeding to child who is less than two years old.

Meanwhile, the majority of Islamic law experts from the Companions, Tabi'in, and Islamic law experts at this time said that breastfeeding that caused the status was breastfeeding newborn children until the age of two years. As for children who are more than two years old or even adults, it will not result in a mahram status between those who are breastfeeding and those who are breastfed.

In other words, breastfeeding children (or breastfeeding adult males in this context) who are more than two years old will not result in a mahram relationship. I will explain some other important things about it at the end of the discussion.

That's a brief explanation of breastfeeding to man in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand that.

Can Husband Drink Breast Milk of Wife During Pregnancy in Islam?

The second important thing about breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam which I will explain now is "can husband drink breast milk of wife during pregnancy in Islam?". I want you to understand that because it is one of the important questions on this topic that some Muslims don't understand very well.

One important thing about breastfeeding husband in Islam that you must understand is that it is permissible or permissible. What it means is that it can be done and it can not be done. Some Muslim couples like to do that because they believe it can add to the harmony in the marriage.

But can husband drink breast milk of wife during pregnancy in Islam? In other words, does Islam allow a husband to drink breast milk of wife during pregnancy?

There are two important things we must understand if we want to know the answer to this question:

  1. Islam allows a wife to breastfeed her husband. This means that Islam does not prohibit a wife from breastfeeding her husband and does not encourage a wife to breastfeed her husband.
  2. "Breast milk" is something that is lawful (halal).

So, if you ask me: can husband drink breast milk of wife during pregnancy in Islam?, specifically, I say that a husband can drink his wife's milk during pregnancy in Islam.

Maybe now you are wondering, "will the husband be a mahram for his wife if he has drunk her breast milk?" That's what I'll explain in a moment.

That is a brief explanation of can husband drink breast milk of wife during pregnancy in Islam? As Muslims, we must understand that.

Breastfeeding Husband During Pregnancy in Islam; Will Husband Become a Mahram?

The third important point about “breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam” which I will explain now is “breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam; will the husband become a mahram?”. I want you to understand that very well because it is one of the topics of discussion that some Muslims don't understand very well.

In the first discussion in this article I have explained that breastfeeding that can lead to a mahram is breastfeeding a newborn baby until he is two years old. That is the opinion of the majority of Islamic jurists. So, "breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam will not cause the husband to become a mahram of his wife." That's the answer.

Specifically, we can find an explanation that breastfeeding a husband will not cause him to become a mahram for his wife in the hadith below:

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَا يُحَرِّمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ إِلَّا مَا فَتَقَ الْأَمْعَاءَ فِيْ الثَّدْيِ وَ كَانَ قَبْلَ الْفِطَامِ

From Umm Salamah radliyallahu anha, she said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammmad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, "Breastfeeding will not make a person a Mahram unless milk has entered the intestine and it is done before weaning."

That is a brief explanation of breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam; will the husband become a mahram?. As Muslims, we must understand that.

That's a brief explanation of breastfeeding husband during pregnancy in Islam and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!

I think that's enough for this article. Hope it is useful. Amen.

See you again in the next article!
