6 Benefits of Marrying a Divorced Woman in Islam
Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of the benefits of marrying a divorced woman in Islam? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!
Specifically, there are three important points about the benefits of marrying a divorced woman in Islam which I will explain in this article. Three important things I mean are as follows:
Is Marrying a Divorced Woman a Sunnah in Islam?
The first important point about benefits of marrying a divorced woman in Islam which I will explain now is “is marrying a divorced woman a Sunnah in Islam?”. I want you to understand that first because it is one of the important questions about “marrying a divorced woman in Islam”.
By the way, do you know Prophet Muhammad? As a Muslim, I'm sure you know him. According to a valid opinion, he had eleven wives. One wife was married in a virgin condition, while ten other wives were married in a widow condition; there are some women who become widows because their husbands divorced and there are some women who become widows because their husbands died.
I want you to understand that first so that you understand whether marrying a divorced woman is a sunnah in Islam.
The only woman the Prophet Muhammad married while a virgin was Aisha bint Abu Bakr. She (Aisha) lived with Prophet Muhammad for 9 years. Prophet Muhammad died when she was 18 years old. She died in the year 58 Hijria, Tuesday, the 17th of the month of Ramadan.
Widows Married to the Prophet Muhammad
The second important point about the benefits of marrying a divorced woman in Islam which I will explain now is the widows who married the Prophet Muhammad.
The widows who married the Prophet Muhammad are as follows:
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid was the first widow the Prophet Muhammad married. She is a very rich widow. Actually, there are many men who come to propose to her. But she rejected them because they looked upon her wealth. She chose Prophet Muhammad as her husband.
The marriage of Khadijah bin Khuwaylid and the Prophet Muhammad took place before he became a Prophet and Messenger of Allah. At that time the Prophet Muhammad was 25 years old, while Khadijah was 40 years old (other opinions say 28 years). Khadijah bint Khualid offered the marriage because of the good personality of the Prophet Muhammad.
During Khadijah's life, Prophet Muhammad never married another woman. She died in the month of Ramadan, 10 years after the Prophet Muhammad became the Prophet and Messenger of Allah. At the time she died, she was 65 years old, while Prophet Muhammad was 50 years old.
Saudah bint Zam'ah
The second widow that the Prophet Muhammad married was Suadah bint Zam'ah. They both married after Khadijah bint Khuwaylid died. Sauda bint Zam'ah died during the reign of Umar bin Khattab.
Hafsa bint Umar
The third widow that the Prophet Muhammad married was Hafsa bint Umar. She was born 5 years before Prophet Muhammad became the Prophet and Messenger of Allah. She died in the year 45 Hijria.
Zainab bint Khuzaimah
The fourth widow that the Prophet Muhammad married was Zainab bint Khuzaimah. She died in the month of Rabiul Awal or Rabiul Akhir in 4 Hijria.
Umm Salamah
The fifth widow that the Prophet Muhammad married was Umm Salamah. She died in the year 61 Hijria.
Zainab bint Jahsh
The sixth widow that the Prophet Muhammad married was Zainab bint Jahsy. She died in the year 20 hijria during the reign of Umar bin Khattab.
Juwairiyah bin Harith
The seventh widow whom the Prophet Muhammad married was Juwairiyah bint Harith. She died during the reign of Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan, in the year 56 hijria.
Umm Habibah
The eighth widow that the Prophet Muhammad married was Umm Habibah. She died during the reign of Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan, in 44 Hijria.
Shafiyah bin Huyay
The eighth widow that the Prophet Muhammad married was Shafiyah bint Huyay. She died in 50 Hijria.
Maimunah bint Harith
The tenth widow whom the Prophet Muhammad married was Maimunah bint Harith. She died in the year 61 Hijria.
Now, if you ask me, "is marrying a divorced woman a Sunnah in Islam?", the answer is "Yes. Marrying a divorced woman is Sunnah in Islam.” The Prophet Muhammad married several widows who were divorced by their husbands and several widows whose husbands died.
Everything that is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, such as sayings, deeds, decisions, attributes of creation and ethics, either before he was sent as a Prophet and Messenger or after that.
That is a brief explanation of "is marrying a divorced woman a Sunnah in Islam?". As Muslims, we must understand that.

A man who marries a divorced woman and doing good to her children will have protection from Hell
The fifth benefit of marrying a divorced woman with the intention of helping her and her children is that the man who does that will get protection from Hell. We can find this explanation in the hadith below:
From Aisha radiyallahu anha, she said, "A woman came to see me with her two daughters. He asked for food, but I had nothing but dates. I then gave the dates to him. He then distributed the dates to his two daughters, while he did not eat any of the dates. Then he went out. Allah's Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam then came to meet me. I then told him about it. He then said, "Whoever is tested with orphaned girls, then he does good to them, then they will be a barrier for him from the fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection."

From Suhail bin Sa'ad radliyallahu anhu, he said, Allah's Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said, "Me and those who take care of orphans in Heaven are like this." He gestured with his index and middle finger and then opened between the two.
