The important question regarding the punishment for committing Zina that I will explain now is: "What is the punishment for committing Zina of the Eyes?" It is essential to understand this, as it is one of the critical questions about Zina of the Eyes that must be clearly grasped.

In general, the punishment for Zina of the Eyes includes the following:

  1. Zina of the Eyes causes the soul of the person who has committed it to be restless. Why? Because they have seen something that is forbidden in Islam. Always remember that sin causes unrest in the soul of the one who commits it. Fornication of the Eyes disturbs the concentration of the individual involved. Why? Because the forbidden images they have seen will affect their memory, leading them to frequently recall them, perhaps even constantly. In fact, it is highly likely they will remember these images at moments requiring complete focus, such as during prayer.
  2. Zina of the Eyes may motivate the individual to engage in other negative behaviors, especially if the Zina involved watching inappropriate films. Furthermore, fornication of the Eyes can diminish or even eliminate a person's self-esteem. The eyes of a person who commits Zina of the Eyes will face torment in Hell if they do not receive Allah's forgiveness. Moreover, Zina of the Eyes is considered a minor sin that can be erased through wudu.

We can find commands in the Quran to avoid Zina of the Eyes. Here are some relevant verses:

Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. (An-Nur [24]; 30).

And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed. (An-Nur [24]; 31).

From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, "Al-Fadl bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, once accompanied the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. Then a woman from Khats'am came. Al-Fadl looked at her, and she looked at him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, then turned Al-Fadl's face in the other direction. The woman then said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, the obligation that Allah has imposed on His servants is Hajj. I know that my father is very old and unable to travel; can I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He replied, 'Yes.' This occurred during the farewell Hajj." This Hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
